Guyanese woman boxer, Veronica Blackman’s attempts to be the first local Woman’s Caribbean Boxing Federation (CABOFE) champion fizzed out when she suffered a second round knockout at the hands of Trinidad based American fighter, Lorissa Rivas, on Saturday March 17 last. Referee, Eon Jardine had travelled to the Twin Island Republic to be a part of the officiating team.
Blackman said that her opponent was the defending champion in the light/heavyweight bout. She said that she had encountered weight problems and had to shed seven pounds, from 181 to 174 in merely 5 hours prior to the bout. She admitted that she was weakened by the effort and could not give of her best in the bout.
