Guyana’s elite 37-year-old runner, Euleen Josiah-Tanner whose trademark in

athletics is ‘train hard and win’, took an easy victory in the Publix International Cuties 5km Saturday morning in Atlanta, Georgia and finished fourth overall amongst tons of runners.
Josiah-Tanner, who trains most mornings down the southwest Atlanta roadway and returns home to her busy schedule, finished the 5km road race in a time of 18:21 seconds behind three male runners.
Being one of Atlanta metro area’s fastest athletes, Josiah-Tanner stated that her race went extremely well from start to finish, “The race was big but it went extremely well for me from the start to the finish,” she said.
With three children to care for, the United States of America-based (USA) Guyanese-born long distance runner who has been enjoying recent successes, disclosed that the race did not have any female challengers or threats to her since she was mostly competing with the 3 males that were ahead of her.
“The start of the race was fine, I was in front with guys all the while and since then the position never changed. I never had any female to really challenge me.”
As she continues to pursue her goal of representing Guyana in this year’s London Olympics, the brown toned Berbician revealed her eagerness of competing on home soil later in year.
“I am excited to return to Guyana to compete in the road races, I won most of the races I entered last year and this year I will be looking to do the same, which is to be victorious.”
Two weeks back, Josiah Tanner ran two races days apart and finished with distinctions. The talented athlete was first place over all at the annual silver comet 10km road race and the Hunger Walk and Run 5km at Turner Field in Atlanta, Georgia. She concluded the 10km course in 37:21 minutes and the 5km in 17:25 minutes.
Josiah Tanner, the first female Caribbean finisher of the 2010 Run Barbados Powerade Marathon, is also the current CARICOM 10km champion and the female champion of the Courts 10km race after its resumption.
