Dear Sir,
I read in one of your dailies how the Church services in New Amsterdam were rudely and disrespectfully obstructed by noise nuisances during the Christmas season. I wish to state that this has occurred and continue to plague many parts of Georgetown and around Guyana.
I live in Central Georgetown where persons just bring out their music sets and play music for almost the whole day, very loudly and don’t show any care for who live around them. I personally know of many people who called the Police Stations and asked for assistance, and to this day I have never seen anyone charged for such an offence. The Ruimveldt Police Station falls within our jurisdiction and I have made several calls for police intervention and none was forthcoming. The most atrocious thing is the manner in which some of the officers answer the phone and take the report.
Can you imagine sitting in your own home and cannot hear your own voice, television or have a moment of peace and quietness after a hard day or week’s work? An even sadder situation is when you have children going to school; they cannot do their home work or rest properly. Bandits can break into your home and kill you and no one would hear you calling for help.
I cannot see any benefits of street dance and loud music. It is the recipe for many bad things to happen such as prostitution, drugs and alcohol consumption, gambling, robberies, public disorder, etc, and yet the Police allow it to happen. It is time that the Police do their jobs and save our youths.
