Rohan Sugrim, a 35- year- old technician of lot 104 Third Street, Agricola, East Bank Demerara, is alleging that he was badly beaten by a woman and two men over a camera the assailants claimed he damaged.
Sugrim claims that the woman, who lives not far from him, gave him a digital camera to fix late last year and that he took the camera to a “digital place” in Georgetown to get a second opinion. The man added that he was told that two parts of the camera had been damaged and that the value to replace the two would be $33,000.
Sugrim claimed that when he told the woman about the damages and the price, she asked that he return her camera. But the technician alleged that when he gave the camera to the woman, she began to slap him, claiming that he had damaged the other part. Sugrim also said that the woman told him that he would have to buy back the camera.
Sugrim said that he refused to reimburse the woman, and that was when the beating began.
“After I show she de camera, she look at it and said I damaged the screen. Then she start hitting me up in me head saying that I have to buy back she camera. I can’t buy back she camera when me ain’t do nothing to it,” Sugrim said.
The man claims that the woman left and subsequently returned with two men who started to trash him continuously.
“They start beating me bad. I didn’t even do anything to she camera. She bring it fuh I fix because the screen nothing was working. And when she come back fuh it, the screen come on and she see like a lil dig like on it.”
Sugrim further noted that as he was being beaten, the woman kept repeating that she took the camera to the same “digital place” and was given a quotation for a few hundred dollars less, and that he (Sugrim) was calling that price since he broke one of the parts.
“Even if was a few hundred dollars less, the digital place couldn’t give her that price for one part. She took it to the digital place first. She knew the cost before she bring it to me. No one part is worth that much and she know the people quotation had included both parts.”
Sugrim said he sought medical treatment and that the matter is being investigated by the police.
