Search and rescue teams have officially called off the search for missing crew members John Vansluytman, and Julian Garraway. The two were on board the tug, MV Christann-V, which was towing a barge when it sank somewhere in the vicinity of the Pomeroon River, earlier this month.
Minister of Public Works Robeson Benn told Kaieteur News last evening that the search is officially over. The Minister said that they have looked throughout the coast lands and didn’t manage to locate the missing men. Minister Benn further told Kaieteur News that his Ministry, and the Harbour Master, intend to meet with the relatives sometime in the week.
He also said that an investigation into the incident is also underway.
Deochand Massidass, Elroy Jack (Jnr) Subhash Kristen, 18, of Meadow Bank; and Chris Narine, 18, of Canal Number Two Polder, West Bank Demerara, and three others were all rescued by other vessels.
Massidass ,17, called “Speedy”, of Zeelugt, East Bank Essequibo, was rescued in the Atlantic Ocean, near Tiger Beach, about 30 miles from Charity by a passenger speedboat and was later collected by the Coast Guard vessel.
Elroy Jack (Jnr) was found near Tiger Beach, North West District, Region One, (Barima/Waini).
Jack and Narine had managed to hold onto life rings for several hours, after jumping into the Atlantic from the sinking tug.
