Dear Editor,
Since when is Kaieteur News so deeply concerned about the future of the Guyana Police Force (GPF) and the welfare of its Ranks save for the occasion when a negative story about the Guyana Police Force will bring it greater profits on the one hand, and denigrate the Police Force on the other?
Pretending to represent the interests of the Police Force and its Ranks, the Kaieteur News thrives on rumours, fabrications and Police “su su” aimed at creating stories that tarnishes the image of the Force and to persistently put the force in a bad light. It is clear that this is the editorial policy of the newspaper.
Police stories except those issued by Mr Whittaker’s Office published by the Kaieteur News are stories that are sold by some Ranks of the Force and bought in exchange for cash by Kaieteur News.
I have asked the Office for Professional Responsibility (OPR) to investigate this malpractice and to bring to book the culprits in the Force, who engage in this dishonourable behaviour. Policemen should draw one salary not two or three.
If it is ever discovered that Kaieteur News is financing Police Ranks in return for inside information and that Ranks are accepting such payments in return for inside information, then it will be a sorry day for those involved.
In its Edition of March 12, 2012 the Kaieteur News asked a question concerning the implementation of the Strategic Plan of the Guyana Police Force. The story starts out by stating unashamedly that there are “concerns” about who will implement the Strategic Plan of the GPF.
Obviously, the Reporter chose not to approach the Commissioner of Police on the matter, had he done so, all his doubts concerning the matter would have been clarified, however, he chose to speak to the 5th columnists in the Force who have their own axes to grind and view cynically the Police Strategic Plan and the capacity of the Force to implement the said Plan.
What was sought after was the unofficial position on the matter. What the Kaieteur News Reporter was after was what was being rumoured, hearsay and speculation in sum, everything that would cast a negative light on the transformation process the GPF is currently experiencing.
