A man who was in prison on a three-year sentence and was on the verge of being released, will have to serve a further three years.
The man, Charles Caesar, an inmate of the New Amsterdam Prison was on Friday jailed by Magistrate Adela Nagamootoo when he appeared before her at the New Amsterdam Magistrate’s court and was found guilty on a charge of possession of narcotics for the purpose of Trafficking.
According to prosecutor Inspector Jairam Ramlakhan, on Wednesday November 8, last, the man was among a group of prisoners who went on an errand outside of the prisons.
On their return they were searched before they re-entered the precincts of the prison. Caesar was found with the drugs concealed in a black plastic bag in his mouth.
