The Guyana Motor Racing & Sports Club (GMR&SC) will be hosting the first leg of the GT&T
National ‘Race of Champions’ Meeting on April 1, at the South Dakota Circuit.
According to reports emanating from the club, among the main attractions will be the highly anticipated rivalry in the Group 4 category which involves high horse power Mitsubishi Evolution 8 of Kevin Jeffrey and Mark Vieira in his ex-Belgium Touring Car RX-8 fitted with a rotary 20B engine.
Other entries in the Group include Andrew King, Paul Vieira, Ryan Rahaman, Keith Evelyn, Vishok Persaud, Gavin Gayadin and Irfaan Kalamadeen.
Vieira, a former champion in the division has been inconsistency with the new car’s development, but is hoping that everything fits into place so that fans and supporters will be able to enjoy a day of exciting duels between him and the other drivers in the category.
It was disclosed that the Meet will also attract foreign participation including the current Group 3 champion Trinidad and Tobago’s Ravi Singh and defending Superbike champion Kevin Graham from Canada.
Steven Vieira and Maurice Menezes are expected to defend home turf.
Eighteen races are carded for the day and among them are the Professional and Amateur Superbikers and Group 2A, 2B, 3 and 4 categories.
The first race commences from 09:00 hrs and tickets are $1,500 for adults, while children and vehicles are free.
