– Lodge girls defeat Central High 1-0
Power house, East Ruimveldt Secondary School trounced St. Stanislaus
College 10-0 yesterday afternoon in the their first game in the Scotiabank/Pepsi Schools Football Tournament at the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) as the Lodge Secondary girls teams defeated Central High 1-0 in the opening game of the double header.
With St. Stanislaus College wounded by that crucial defeat of 10 unanswered goals from the Ruimveldt boys, Coach/Teacher of the school Uzzi Yisrael stated that the team’s defence was predominantly shaky and that being the main factor which caused of the goal amount to be that high.
A powerful right leg shot from Craig Huges in the 25th minute opened the account for the East Ruimveldt when the powerful shot surged pass St. Stanislaus goalkeeper who displayed great technical skills in the first 20 minutes of the game.
Three minutes later, another goal was added to the account which was loaded with goals by the energetic team. The goal was scored by Romel Legall who netted four goals for his team. The first two were made in the 29th and 32th minutes respectively.
Legall’s goal was netted when the ball flew over the St. Stanislaus goalkeeper who stepped out his box to retrieve the ball.
The Ruimveldt boys who looked great on the field supplemented the score of 3-0 with two more goals before the half time whistle from the referee. The goals were netted minutes apart by Joshua Fiffee in the 34th minute and by Travil Prepont in the 35th minute.
On resumption of second half, Ruimveldt turned up the heat to another level to score another 5 goals to round off the score line to 10-0.
The firing Legall took advantage of the situation when his teammate passed the ball to him on the left flank. With the St. Stanislaus goalkeeper practicing his football custom of stepping out the box, Legall powered towards him but this time made a dribble to trick the keeper to easily tap the ball in to the goal in the 37th minute.
Legall made his final goal for the afternoon in the 50th minute when he volleyed the ball into the net.
Ahmad Stephens made his first 5 minutes after Legall goal spree concluded in an identical manner when the goalkeeper stepped out of his territory again in the 55th minute to make it 8-nil.
The other two goals were scored in the 65th and 68th minutes respectively; the 65th minute goal was scored by means of an own goal. Ashmaile Barrington got an easy goal in the 68th minute when the goalkeeper, who is not good with his legs, kicked the ball which went right in the path of Barrington just beyond the 6 yards box, Barrington made good use of the golden opportunity by immediately kicking the ball back to goal which went unswervingly through the keeper legs.
In the girls game which had a lot of bad air between the two schools that lacked the technical skills of the game, Monique King of Lodge Secondary School kicked the winning goal which left her teammates celebrating for minutes on the field in front of their opponents Central High School.
The Scotiabank/Pepsi Schools Football Tournament continues Saturday with double headers at the GFC ground against Tutorial High and Tucville Secondary School (girls) and Queens College and Charlestown (boys) from 9:30hrs.
