As some would say, the angel of death passed through Goedverwagting, East Coast Demerara yesterday,
taking the lives of two pensioners, who collapsed seconds apart and a few yards away from each other.
This publication was told that around 10:30 hours yesterday, 70 year-old Jurawan Ramnarine of Better Hope East Coast Demerara collapsed while selling shrimps in Goedverwagting.
A female villager said that Ramnarine, also called ‘Jackslate,’ was heard calling out for a resident of the area. The resident rushed to Ramnarine and found him slumped over his bicycle.
The elderly man was placed to lie under a house where he remained motionless. He was pronounced dead on arrival at the Georgetown Public Hospital. This publication was told that Ramnarine had a heart ailment.
And while residents were assisting Ramnarine, screams were heard coming from another yard. Villagers were seen rushing to the aid of 65 year-old Chabielall Narine, who had collapsed on the road.
The man’s son, Terry Ramsook said by the time they reached to his father’s aid he was already dead.
Ramsook said his father had collapsed after leaving a shop. Shortly after a hearse arrived and took Narine to a city morgue.
Only Sunday last, Narine was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital after he fell ill and was told he had
some complications with his lungs.
