The MV Kimbia which was destined for the North West District having left Port
Georgetown at around 13:00 hours yesterday was forced to return to its departure point after encountering a generator problem.
This publication was told that the vessel has been experiencing a generator problem since last week and was initially scheduled to leave since last Thursday.
According to reports, the Captain of the vessel was forced to return to port Georgetown after realizing that the vessel could not have completed the scheduled trip.
This publication was told that the MV Kimbia was about to make a turn in the vicinity of the ‘Beacon’ but had to turn back and dock at the Kingston Wharf. According to a source, over the past few days engineers have been working tirelessly on the generator for the vessel.
There are reports that a ‘trial run’ was suggested for the vessel before departing for the North West location.
This advice however, was not adhered to, as the ferry set out for its journey yesterday without any such tests being undertaken.
This publication was told that engineers were on standby at the Wharf yesterday and commenced work immediately after the vessel docked.
Passengers were observed attempting to comfort themselves as they awaited word on when the vessel would recommence its journey.
It was not calm for all however, as some were worried about their perishables onboard the boat questioning what will become of their loss as a result of the delay.
Up to press time last evening, the vessel was still undergoing repairs as eager passengers await word on its fate.
On Saturday last another Transport and Harbor Department vessel had to be towed into Port Georgetown after its engine room caught afire.

All of the passengers and crewmembers onboard at the time escaped the ordeal unharmed as the fire was contained to the engine room.
Only a vehicle onboard that vessel was scorched.
A full report determining the extent of the damage to the engine was expected to be submitted to the Minister of Transport sometime yesterday.
