A man who sold an undercover policeman a $100 bag of marijuana will spend the next four years in jail.
The accused, 55 year-old Lennox Maynard, of 308 Block Y Golden Grove, made his appearance at the Providence Magistrates’ Court.
Maynard was charged with possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking to which he pleaded guilty after it was read to him by Magistrate Leslie Sobers.
It is alleged that on Monday March 12, at Golden Grove, Maynard had in his possession 315 grams of cannabis for the purpose of trafficking.
Police Prosecutor, Shellon Daniels, in presenting the facts to the court said that on the day in question two police ranks were on bike patrol in the area where the defendant lives.
The court was told that acting on information received one of the rank went into Maynard’s yard and enquired about ‘weed.’
According to the Prosecutor, Maynard then sold the undercover cop $100 worth of marijuana. The rank immediately left but soon returned with ranks dressed in uniform and a search was conducted in Maynard’s house where 23 small transparent plastic bags filled with marijuana were discovered.
The man was told of the offence, arrested and hence charged.
Meanwhile, when asked if he had anything to say Maynard told the court that he did not sell any marijuana to the police.
He added that the man walked into his yard and picked up a bag of marijuana which was on a table under his house.
According to Maynard he does not sell the marijuana but uses it for his own medicinal purposes.
After listening to Maynard and the Prosecution the Magistrate sentenced Maynard to four years imprisonment.
