A man who claimed that the Devil made him snatch a woman’s Blackberry cellular phone will now spend the next eight months in prison.
Yesterday, 23 year-old Anthony Jones who gave his address as 652, Diamond Squatting Area made his appearance at the Providence Magistrate’s Court. Jones was charged with larceny from the person, to which he pleaded guilty.
It is alleged that on Monday at Herstelling, East Bank Demerara, Jones stole a $46,000 Blackberry cellular phone from Amanda Deonarine.
The court was told that on the day in question the virtual complainant was walking in the vicinity of Second Street, Herstelling after collecting her son from school when Jones rode pass her on a yellow bicycle and snatched her cellular phone.
Deonarine immediately raised an alarm and persons in the area gave chase. Jones was caught and handed over to the police who were on patrol in the area at the time.
When asked if he had anything to say, Jones said he was sorry but it was the Devil who got the best of him and made him snatch the phone.
