The Essequibo Technical Institute, celebrating its 11th Anniversary, yesterday
held a Career Day fair at its Anna Regina compound.
Several companies and agencies participated including the Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA); Machinery Corporation of Guyana (MACORP); Republic Bank Limited; Bumper to Bumper Services; CARICOM Rice Mills and Barama Company Limited.
The Principal, Michael Turner, in his address noted that the occasion comes at a time when the institution is at the crossroads of progress. He also said that the celebrations were of the institution’s technical and vocational studies which trigger economic growth and development.
According to the official, 3,081 students received training in specific competences. The institution recently signed an agreement with Barama and intends to sign another with CARICOM Rice Mills for among other things, the hiring of new graduates.
During the past 11 years, the institute’s population was 1,869- with one of the years boasting some 366 students at one time. The facility is now targeting 520 students which will be enhanced with the completion of a dormitory aimed at hosting students from far-flung areas, including Region One and the Bartica islands.
