Dear Sir
I attended this show over the week end and would like to congratulate Mr. Mahadeo Shivraj along with his entire team for a Job well done and wish them every success in trying to develop an industry here in Guyana.
However , I would like to make two comments:
1) It is my belief that Mr. Shivraj et al should have used local song writers and musicians to write music and to do the “playback” for the film as it would encourage local songsters to develop their capabilities. I think it gives an appearance of laziness when we can just take the work of great singers of India and use it for our commercial benefit.
2) Minister’s Anthony comments regarding Shivraj’s efforts gave the impression that he is unaware of the numerous efforts made in the past and in fact the many films that were produced here and/or had significant Guyanese influence such as If Wishes Were Horses , Agro Seizeman , Operation Makonaima etc etc.
I believe it would have been appropriate for him to give mention to previous efforts made and then to urge Shivraj and others interested in this endeavour to try to bring some consistency and frequency to film making here rather than a few sporadic efforts. In this regard, I suggest that the Government look at introducing a regime of incentives (if this does not exist) in order to make it more attractive to potential film producers but local and from Overseas.
Onward to “ Guywood” ! Phrase used by Neaz Subhan.
