The Kennard Memorial Turf Club will be the centre of attraction today when thousands of Horseracing fans and over 60 horses converge on the race track at Bush Lot Corentyne, Berbice for the entities opening race meet for the Year. The event is the club’s annual One Day Phagwah meet.
Over $5.2M are up for grabs in the Eight Race programme which will have cash incentives and trophies at stake. Reports out of the organisers is that the track is in the best of condition and with the inclement weather easing off some keen and exciting races are anticipated.
The feature event is for animals classified B and lower with the winner set to race away with a first prize of $1M over 7 Furlongs.
The other events are The E and lower 6 Furlong event for the $500,000 top prize and trophy. The race for three year old Guyana and West Indies Bred horses for the $400,000 and trophy over7 Furlongs.
There is the race for G class animals over a distance of 6Furlongs and a winner’s money of $300,000.
The H class race will see the winner taking home $220,000 and trophy in the 6 furlong event.
The race for the ‘I’ class animals carries a winning purse of $150,000 also over 6 Furlongs.
The JK class 6 Furlongs race has a pole position taking of $120,000 and trophy.
There is also a race for L class animals which will see them racing for a top purse of $100,000 and trophy over 5 furlongs.
Among the sponsors are Jumbo Jet Auto Sales, DDL, City Mall, Mike’s Pharmacy and the Saroop family among others. The Champion Jockey and Runner up Jockeys, Trainer and stables will all receive accolades compliment of Ramesh Sunich of the Trophy Stall Bourda market and some other donors.
Among the top animals down to compete today are The Message, Grande De Roja, Who is on the Case, Clever cat, Who So ever, Fresh Again, Stormy Flame, Wad A Luck, Swing Easy, Night Crescendo, Awesome Warrior, and newly imported, Brown Majesty and Massive King. Home Bush Baby, Maya, Sabrina’s Joy, Marathon man and newly imported Traditional Man and Them Girls Surge, Happy Choice, Big Red, Serenity, Princess Ceara, Flash of melody, Times Have Changed, Baby Flyer, Rock Sonia Settle in Seattle and Windy war.
