– Teams compete in chowtaal playoff for $1 million
The Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company (GT&T) will today host
ColourFest- a blue extravaganza to celebrate the Hindu festival of Phagwah. The event is billed for the National Stadium at Providence, East Bank Demerara.
A unique feature of the event is a chowtaal playoff in which the winning team will win a whopping $1 million. A total of 13 teams have registered to take part, Yog Mahadeo, Chief Executive Officer of GT&T said.
Colourfest was launched last year as GT&T looks to demonstrate its support for national activities.
The chowtaal playoff will be followed by a grand cultural programme featuring singers from the Bollywood segment of the GT&T Jingle and Song competition, as well as international singers Rakesh Yankarran and Anil Bheem.
To make the celebration a true colourfest, the company has shared out thousands of bottles of powder and t-shirts.
No alcoholic beverages will be allowed.
A motorcade to the Colourfest kicks off from the DSL turn at Ruimveldt.
Mahadeo expects an estimated 15,000 persons to converge at the National Stadium today.
