General Services secured an upset win to end the reign of defending champions Mines who were
dumped 2-0 from the 2012 championship, while Mark Louis’s hat-trick of goals paved the way for a 7-0 hammering of Plant Operations, when the semifinals of the BOSAI Minerals Group Inc Inter Division football championship semifinals took place on Saturday night at the Mackenzie Sports Club ground, Linden in front of an appreciative crowd.
In the first semifinal, Plant Maintenance, with striker Mark Louis in ripping form, ended any hope of Plant Operations advancing to defend their title. Louis had strikes in the 12th to open the goal rush and with Ryan Noel getting the second in the 20th minute, Louis then added two more which were netted in the 22nd and 27th minutes.
Then Arthur Bynoe added his name on the score sheet when he scored in the 33rd minute and one minute after Keith Gilkes got the sixth goal for the eventual winners. But the win was sealed by Orin Scott completed the scoring for a 7-0 advantage going into the second half.
The second half produced no more goals and Plant Maintenance moved into the final coasting to a 7-0 triumph.
The second game of the double header saw Travis Hinds netting in the 13th minute and Aaron Henry in the 65th minute to ensure general services ousting the defending champions Mines 2-0.
The win for General Services was achieved over a Mines outfit that lacked punch up front which had enabled them to cart off the last championship in 2010.
They were eventually beaten 2-0 thus making it possible for the final to be contested by General Services and Plant Maintenance on Saturday at the MSC ground.
