The Youthful Den Amstel Football Club (FC) trounced the seasoned Victoria Kings 5-1 at Uitvlugt ground
last Sunday when the 2012 edition of the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) Super League kicked off around Guyana last weekend.
Scoring for youthful Den Amstel FC’s were Andre Hector, National player Kester Jacobs, Rondell Huston and Ashton Cummings; Den Amstel account was opened by National Player Kester Jacobs in the 9th minute. Victoria Kings responded to Den Amstel’s goal twenty-three minutes after, the goal was netted by veteran Sherlock Dowden in the 32nd minute.
After Victoria Kings levelled the score, Den Amstel FC turned the heat on by playing in full defence mode thwarting all goal attempts from their opponents, while going onto score one more goal in the first half by Hector, who had scored six goals in the preliminary round of the League, in the 22nd minute.
On the resumption, Hutson followed by Cummings and Hector sealed the package of dismissal in the 60th, 83rd and 85th minutes respectively.
In the second game, which commenced at 15:30hrs, star studded Pele FC trounced the hapless Seawall FC by 7 goals to 1.
Guyana’s first MLS Player and National Striker, Gregory ‘Jackie Chan’ Richardson, hit in a double in the 41st and 66th minutes with Travis ‘Zorro’ Grant scoring in the 40th minute. Stellon David, Konata Manning, Okeene Fraser and Calvin Shepherd contributed to the score line in the 71st, 81st, 83rd and 87th minutes respectively.
With another double header playing at the McKenzie Sports Club ground in Linden, Alpha United 2-0 and Milerock 2-1 defeated their opponents.
Alpha United had to pull out all the stops to get pass a determined Amelia’s Ward when no goals were scored in the first half. Alpha’s Manasseh Primo scored in the 74th minute with Anthony Abrams sealing the deal with a goal in the 92nd minute.
In the final game, Milerock edged out a fighting BK Western Tigers who made their goal as early as in the 16th minute. Philip Rowley found the back of the net. Milerock responded with two strikes in second half in the 60th and 61st minutes. The first was scored by Marlon Maxius with a penalty; Kieron Cameron scored the second with a long shot about 40 yards out, the ball was in the air for an eternity when the Western Tigers 14 year old Goalkeeper Romel Legall, misjudged the ball which went over his head to land into the back of the net.
The other scheduled game against at the Blairmont Community Centre between Rosignol United and Buxton United was not played due to the unplayable state of the ground. That game has been rescheduled for Thursday March 8 at 15:30 hrs.
