-driver on station bail
The 20-year-old carpenter who was struck down by a speeding car at Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara (ECD)
succumbed to his injuries Sunday last after spending a week in the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation(GPHC).
Dead is Vangaskar Ramcharitar of Lot 664 Good Hope, ECD.
Reports are that Ramcharitar was about to cross the public road when a car “appeared from nowhere” and struck him.
He had suffered severe head injuries, a broken leg and broken hands.
At the scene, the driver, who appeared to have been under the influence of alcohol, was detained by the police. The carpenter was rushed to the hospital and was immediately admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
Meanwhile, the female driver told police that she could not remember what had happened.
The police did not administer a breathalyzer test and there are concerns as to why that was not done.
The driver was eventually put on station bail. The police who was conducting the investigation were reportedly instructed to do so by a superior officer. Ramcharitar spent two days in the ICU and was subsequently transferred to the High Dependency Unit (HDU) where he spent five days before he succumbed.
Yesterday, a source from the Beterverwagting Police Station told Kaieteur News that the police are aware of the carpenter’s death. He said that although the woman is currently on station bail, she will be put before the Court to answer the charges.
