Police have recovered the body of 46-year-old security guard Walter Hamilton,
who had been missing since Sunday after falling off the Guyana National Shipping Corporation (GNSC) wharf while on duty there.
Hamilton’s decomposed remains washed ashore at around 15:30 hrs yesterday at the Den Amstel, West Coast Demerara foreshore.
Police retrieved a mobile phone, bank card and an iPod from the dead man’s pockets.
The remains were subsequently identified by relatives at the Ezekiel Funeral Home.
Kaieteur News understands that Hamilton, of ‘B’ Field, Sophia, was on security detail on the GNSC wharf at around 02:00 hrs on Sunday, when apparently, he fell overboard.
His wife, Abigail Hamilton, said that she was told that other employees heard a splash, but said they had not seen when her spouse fell overboard. She said that Hamilton’s haversack and transmitting set were found on a chair near the wharf.
She revealed that her husband wore spectacles, since he had poor sight in one eye.
Police are still investigating the incident and are awaiting results of a postmortem.
