Dear Editor,
I refer to a letter (KN, Feb 25) captioned, “APNU agents were at all Cane Grove polling stations, Freddie,” by APNU’s activist, Earl Lambert.” Mr. Lambert needs to reply to two top APNU leaders, Messrs.
David Granger and Aubrey Norton. APNU in a press release as a reaction to the report on the election by the OAS Observer team, asserted that the OAS monitors did not observe many manifestations of the PPP’s process of election mischief.
Aubrey Norton in a television interview with Christopher Ram reproduced on demerarawaves.com pointedly stated that APNU did not monitor the voting properly in PPP dominated areas.
If Messrs Granger and Norton are lamenting wrong-doing by the PPP on voting day, why can’t one assume that there was bad behaviour by the PPP in Cane Grove. Maybe Mr. Lambert who was APNU’s point man for that area will cover himself by saying there was no skullduggery.
But this is what I know. One of the AFC’s Region 5 organizers, Cindy Sookdeo rang me in a troubled tone to say that the AFC should send someone up to Cane Grove because in one polling station, the PPP was engaged in tampering. I asked her where the agents of APNU and AFC were, she said there were none. She was very agitated. I then informed Mr. Khemraj Ramjattan and he subsequently spoke to Cindy
Well, who should I believe? Should I dismiss as fantasy someone who is a friend and whose judgement I trust? Why Cindy Sookdeo didn’t tell me about skullduggery in her area? Why did she single out a particular polling station in Cane Grove?
To put it simply; I believe what Sookdeo told me. Others will believe what PPP activists told them that there was no mischief. Others will believe that Mr. Lambert was right in that things went smoothly in Cane Grove.
Surely, life is about making friends and trusting the judgement of those who we trust. I trust Sookdeo and I still believe her when she yelled over the phone that election tampering was taking place at a particular polling station in Cane Grove.
As stated in his letter, Mr. Lambert said he would send me the voting results for Cane Grove. He has my land line numbers and cell. I would expect a call from him so I can collect those results
