The Rotary Club of Georgetown will hold its Annual Day of Sport for the Differently Abled at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall, Homestretch Avenue, today commencing at 08:00hrs. The annual event will host 13 institutions with just under 300 participants. The Club has hosted this event for over 20 successive years
Among the officials featuring at the opening ceremony are President of the Rotary Club, Anna Lisa Fraser-Phang, and Minister of Sport, Dr. Frank Anthony. The day’s competition will commence with a March Past of the athletes with music being provided by the Guyana Police Force Band.
The day’s programme will feature some 31 athletic and novelty events including 50m and 80m sprints for boys and girls between the ages of 8 and 21 years who are hearing or visually impaired; open sprint events for the visually impaired, wheelchair races, walking races, three legged races, wheelbarrow races, egg and spoon races and musical chairs.
Corporate support for the event has been provided by the following; General Equipment Guyana Ltd. (Genequip), Bank of Nova Scotia, Courts, Republic Bank, Citizen Bank, Demerara Mutual Fire & Life Insurance Company, Hand in Hand Insurance Company, Sterling Products, Banks, DIH, Neal & Massy, Rent-a-Tent, Associated Industries and Nigel’s Supermarket.
The Rotary Club looks forward to other sponsors who have been invited to support this worthwhile event coming on board and helping to make it a success. The competing institutions are Special Needs School, Lion’s School for children with Special Needs, Ptolemy Reid Rehabilitation Centre, Guyana Society for the Blind, Ruimveldt Parent Support Group, St. Roses Visually Impaired Unit, David Rose School for the Handicapped,
Guyana Association for the Visually Impaired, Open Door Centre, East Bank CBR, East Coast CBR, Georgetown CBR and the Cheshire Home.
