Some people come into our lives for a reason, and have the ability to touch others in a way that changes them forever. Some souls, by the example of their lives, can help us to understand some of the eternal questions. Who am I really? What is my relationship with the Creator? What is the purpose of my life?
To make one’s life truly worthwhile and valuable means to make our life like a diamond: brilliant, sparkling, and many faceted. A diamond is so attractive that it naturally draws people’s attention, and it is equally beautiful whichever angle it is viewed from. It is rare, and therefore precious. Actually, each one of us has this potential to live a life of value; it’s what we choose to do with that potential that defines the degree of our sparkle.
To live a diamond-like life means to use our resources in a worthwhile way and in service to others, whether time, energy, or money. Even each and every thought we create (the seeds of our actions) can be destructive or constructive. If chosen well, even our thoughts can be a force for greater good. A diamond life is not a path of renouncing worldly things: it is a path of simply renouncing a worldly attitude for the sake of something much higher and more precious.
may ponder the meaning of ‘surrendering our lives to the Creator’ and wonder how that can be possible while at the same time living our busy lives with families, work, and endless concerns? After all, we are only human……or are we?
A life like a diamond means to rise above gross personal desires which only give us a short-term gain, and to do that which is for the benefit of all: the result is a life of lasting happiness rather than short term pleasures. A person on the road to a diamond life, will also seek out their own weaknesses and flaws, not to beat themselves up with, but in order to remove them, to polish up the soul. It may take a little effort, but the rewards are boundless.
A life of dignity and self-respect comes from constant awareness of to Whom I belong, and the soul that is constantly connected with the Supreme sees itself as an instrument for the Creator’s work. It knows that the magic is not in the instrument itself, but in the One who plays the instrument. The instrument merely has a responsibility to keep itself in tune and always available.
The largest, purest and most precious diamond in a showcase is always lit with one special bright light that brings out its true beauty. It allows the diamond to sparkle and to send light in every direction. Likewise, a soul who takes from, and is sustained by only One Source and none other, is a soul that can give pure light to others untainted by expectations, projections or desires. Such a soul knows its own intrinsic beauty and value, and yet remains uninfluenced by ego.
Creating a life like a diamond may seem like a monumental task, but do not forget that the diamond within already exists within: it is our true and eternal nature, it is who I am. All the diamond needs to do is to offer itself unconditionally to the Supreme Jeweller to be cut and polished to perfection.
In the English language the words ‘soul’ and ‘soil’ have the difference of only one letter, but the difference in significance is vast. Don’t soil your life by living in the soil (mud) of a body conscious attitude! By dropping your diamond in the mud you will lose sight of the beauty of the soul, and the wonderful diamond that you are. Bring it into the light, clear all marks, and it can become a light for the world.
