The Preliminary Inquiry (PI) into the death of Shewraney Doobay, wife of prominent physician, Dr. Ramsundar Doobay, was yesterday given another date due to the absence of the Prosecutor who was attending the annual Police Officers’ Conference.
The matter is expected to resume on March 7 before Magistrate Hazel Octave-Hamilton. At the last hearing, Dr. Doobay, who is the Head of Internal Medicine at Georgetown Public Hospital (GPHC), gave evidence on events leading up to the death of his wife.
He presented his testimony while being led by Police Prosecutor Inspector Fazil Karimbaksh.
Two men, Mark Singh of Prince William Street, Plaisance and Shakir Mohamed of Lot 127 Latchuni Street, Better Hope, East Coast Demerara were charged for the murder of the woman.
In early January of this year, Singh, who was the nephew of the 58-year old victim died in prison from what doctors said, was a severe case of asthma.
Also to take the stand was Lance Corporal, Desmond Johnny. He was cross-examined by Defence Attorney Vic Puran who is representing the remaining accused, Shakir Mohamed.
The police alleged that on May 24 2011, at Echilibar Villas, Campbellville, the doctor’s wife was murdered. She was found lying in a pool of blood in the kitchen of the couple’s two-storey home. She had been repeatedly struck in the head with a blunt instrument which caused her demise.
