The Canadian exploration company U3O8 Corp’s Resource Drilling, which is currently
operating in Guyana, says that its most recent drilling activities have unearthed a significant Uranium find here.
The company yesterday reported that the find is of such importance, that it could catapult it from “a junior explorer to the ranks of a handful of mid-sized uranium companies.”
The Canadian-based company which is focused on exploration and resource expansion of uranium and associated commodities in South America reported its results from the final 32 holes completed in the resource drilling campaign on the Aricheng West structure in Kurupung.
“These infill drill results add to the mounting evidence that the Kurupung Project could host a large uranium system comparable in size to other albitite-hosted deposits such as Coles Hill in Virginia, Michelin in Labrador and Valhalla in Australia,” said Dr. Richard Spencer, U3O8 Corp’s President and CEO.
He says too, that “In the past year, we have dramatically increased our uranium resources in key projects in Colombia and Argentina and the forthcoming NI 43-101 resource from the Kurupung will further contribute to U3O8 Corp’s strong growth profile as we advance from a junior explorer to the ranks of a handful of mid-sized uranium companies.”
The company reported also that Uranium at Aricheng West is concentrated in a set of near-vertical, sheet-like breccias that have an eastern trend that extends over one kilometre and is still open along strike.
Outside of the Canadian explorations for uranium, Iran had also commenced an exploratory mission here in search of minerals, inclusive of Uranium.
Iran raised eyebrows in 2009 with offers to help map uranium deposits in Venezuela, where leftist President Hugo Chavez supports Tehran’s nuclear programme.
Iran was supposed to have provided a US$1.5M grant to boost Guyana’s health care system and help it map mineral resources under a signed agreement.
Bharrat Jagdeo had reported that Iranian scientists will identify uranium deposits using updated technology, replacing the current prospecting system.
Head of the Presidential Secretariat, Dr. Roger Luncheon did however have cause to stress that Iran’s offer to assist Guyana in mapping its mineral wealth is non-specific, and does not focus on any particular mineral resource, such as uranium.
The Iranian company Prometheus had even lost one of its exploration planes that had been conducting the surveys.
Enriched uranium is the key ingredient in the construction of nuclear bombs or is used in the reactors of nuclear plants that produce energy such as electricity.
