…44 so far in 2012
Berbicians are once again being plagued by bothersome blackouts. The year is fairly still new but the Guyana Power & Light has already chalked up over 44 power outages for January and February.
January alone had 20 blackouts while there were 24 in February. Many persons have been complaining that the power outages are damaging their equipment and this is costing them lots of money. Business persons are crying out since they are burdened with the problem of buying fuel to power their stand- by generators.
Many customers are calling on the power company in Berbice to deliver on their promises to provide a better service to the Ancient County in this New Year. There have been no explanations by GPL for plunging much of the Region (6) into darkness on Sunday, February 5, when the power went off just before midnight and was not restored until the next day.
Businessmen in New Amsterdam, who spoke with Kaieteur News, have lamented the silence of the Chambers of Commerce, in Berbice. On some days, there were as many as four power outages of varying lengths of time.
Several efforts by this newspaper to contact Berbice Operations manager of GPL, Mr. Ayube Bacchus proved futile.
