Embattled Imam, Neezam Alli, of the Turkeyen, East Coast Demerara, was scheduled to make yet another
court appearance yesterday but the case was postponed after the Magistrate failed to show up at court.
As such, the Imam is expected to return later today at the Sparendaam Magistrates’ Court. However, it is still not clear if any new charges will be instituted since two more boys have come forward and medical examinations have revealed that they were molested.
Yesterday, the Imam was present in court but exited after reporters entered.
Alli is currently before the court to answer charges of sexual assault on four minors who were under his supervision at a Turkeyen Masjid.
Meanwhile, this publication was told that some of the complainants in the matter are still in protective custody.
On the Imam’s initial appearance in court he was remanded to jail but was subsequently allowed his pre-trial liberty after an application to the High Court.
