The Rotary Club, Stabroek yesterday granted the wish that injured prison officer
Roxanne Winfield has of going to Church.
This donation stemmed from an article published in Kaieteur News last Sunday, where Winfield’s sister had expressed Winfield’s desperation for a wheelchair which will allow her to see once again, the beauty of the outdoors and fulfill her wish of being able to enter the house of God and thank him for all the things that he has done for her.
The brave woman survived a bullet to the head fired at point blank range during the Mash Day jailbreak 10 years ago. Winfield, who remains an inspiration to her family and those in her community, is unable to walk or talk properly after losing a huge portion of her brain.
And being indoors most of the time is a struggle for Winfield, who before the incident in 2002 was an outdoor person, who loved the fun life.
Winfield managed to express in her own way, gratitude for the wheelchair she received from the Rotary Club.
This year Mash Day, Winfield had badly wanted to attend the celebrations in Georgetown but her present circumstance did not allow for that, but with the wheelchair she has received, she will now be able to not only see the beauty of her village, but to sit in Church and thank God for his mercy as well.
