Big wins also for Technology, Dubai Duchess and Watch MY Shadow

The Elcock stables dominated proceedings with three wins and one second to come out champion stable when the Ryan Crawford Memorial Turf Club and Sports Facilities (RCMTC&SF) held their season opening Horserace Meet, at Alness Corentyne Berbice.
With horseracing fans made to wait over two months for the start of the season due to the inclement weather a large and appreciative crowd was on hand to witness the day’s races on a track that was on the soft side.
There was no stopping the Message of the Colin Elcock stable as it romped to victory in the feature ‘B’ class 1500M event sponsored by Banks DIH Limited.

With $700,000 first prize and the Banks DIH trophy up for grabs, the race began with Wad a Luck and Fresh Again doing most of the front running. As they hit the back stretch, The Message with Jamaican Jockey Andron Findley in the saddle started to make its move with Who so Ever of the De Roop stable with Yap Drepaul on board in pursuit.
Approaching the final turn, Findlay asked The Message for more and the horse produced a merciless run down the homestretch to win by about 10 lengths with Who so Ever running on to take second ahead of Majestic and Fresh Again.
Dubai Duchess of the Shariff stable with Drepaul on the hunch came through with a blistering finish to take the ‘E’ class opening 1200M event from the Bailiff with newly imported Traditional Man, who did most of the front running, third and Momzelle fourth. The win was worth $350,000 and the Dr. Dwight Walrond trophy.
Technology of the P & P Syndicate/ Elcock stable and ridden by Findley showed that it is advanced and ready for the season with another thumping victory in the event for 4 year-old Guyana & West Indies bred horses.
Technology showed that it is in a class of its own, cantering to victory ahead of Damascus Dream for the $350,000 and the Omai Transportation and Services trophy over 1500M.
The 3year-old Guyana and West Indies Bred 1400M race was won by Feels like Gold with Drepaul astride and the combination came home ahead of Come Dance With Me.
Watch My Shadow of The Elcock stable with Findley in control watched its opponents lead for most of the race before producing a terrific turn of speed to leave the field in its wake and take away the $250,000 top prize compliments of Digicel in the three year old race for Guyana Bred horses over 1200M.
Third World held on for second place ahead of Quincy Girl and Blessing.
The ‘G’ class 1500M race with a first prize of $200,000 and the Carl Clean Enterprise trophy on offer was won by Stormy Lass of the Chico Singh Stable with Robin Drepaul aboard. Second place went to Face the Music, while Work Force and Spanish Love occupied the third and fourth places.
There was nothing funny in the H1 and lower 1500M event as Funny Side of the Gray stable with Drepaul in the saddle raced away with $160,000 and the Francis ‘Chico’ Chichester trophy from Royal Salute, and Diplomat.
There was also a win for The Mexican ridden by Baker of the Budhoo in the J K and L race.
Yap Drepaul with three wins and two second place finishes edged out Andron Findley with three wins and one second for the champion Jockey Crown. The Elcock Stables with its three wins was adjudged top stable, while Colin Elcock was adjudged the top trainer.
They received accolades compliments of Ramesh Sunich of Trophy Stall, Bourda Market.
The other major sponsors were Delmur Company Limited, Dequan Shipping and Trading, Omai Transportation, Attorney at Law R.N. Poonai, and the RCMTC&SF among others. The principals of the RCMTC& SF would like to thank all the sponsors and fans for making the day what it was.
A whopping $5M in cash, trophies were up for grabs, while over 60 horses participated in the day’s action.
The next race date for the club is Sunday, March 25.
