– Jaguars to go after win against Guatemala at National Stadium
Following Guyana’s National football team, Golden Jaguars recent Caribbean Tour earlier in the month, the team was honoured to dine with one of their sponsor’s Wart Sila Inc. at Pegasus Hotel yesterday midday with CEO of Wart Sila Inc. Aaron Fraser.
Describing the Caribbean Tour as a successful evaluation of talent in Guyana, Golden Jaguars Manager, Mark Xavier stated that lunch with their sponsor, Wart Sila Inc. would mark the second for the team with the company, with first one being last year when Guyana defeated Trinidad and Tobago on November 11 at the National Stadium, Providence to advance to the third round of the CONCACAF World Cup Qualifier to play Mexico, Costa Rico and El Salvador.
Golden Jaguars pose outside of Giftland Office Max after their visiting the entity, yesterday afternoon.
The Manager went on by saying that Wart Sila Inc. has always been very generous to the team and with that is grateful for the lunch they organised for the team.
The team also paid a visit to their other sponsor, Giftland Office Max on Water Street during the course of the day to interact with the shoppers and their sponsor.
In a candid interview with the Captain of the team, Christopher Nurse at Raddison Suite, Albertown with Kaieteur Sport, Nurse stated that the training preparations for their upcoming game against Guatemala at the National Stadium, Wednesday is intense and revealed that the friendly games which will be played before the big game in June, is more of a building progression for the team, “This is where the coach can test out the different formations and strategies”, he said.
Nurse added that the training is very competitive since everyone is fighting for their place on the team, “From the young players to the senior players, everyone realizes that there is so much talent to pick from and that anyone’s place is not guaranteed on the team, so the training is really competitive.”
The Captain highlighted that the afternoon sessions are more strategic and tactical than the morning sessions.
Asking Nurse about his preparation for the game, he stated that he has been out of the game for a while after a surgery for a knee injury he acquired last November, “I have been out with a knee injury, so I have been spending some time with the physiotherapist and working out to get better fitness.”
With the team previous victory against Grenada on the Caribbean Tour, the confidence for their second International Friendly game on Wednesday will be towering as they attempt to defeat Guatemala, a team which defeated them two years ago, “It will be a game that we will be looking to win since we would not want them to beat us twice. We will be going out there on Wednesday to play our strategy the best way we can; the result might not be the most important thing after this game since there will be a lot of things that will be tried and tested to prepare for the next game, but we will be definitely be going after win,” Nurse stated.
