Dear Editor,
I used my Republic Bank Visa One Card to make an online purchase from Amazon.com. Within a few minutes I realised that the item was not what I wanted so I cancelled the order.
I waited a few days and checked my balance at Republic Bank’s Water Street office but the money was not yet back in my account.
I checked with Amazon who informed me that they had sent correspondence to Republic Bank notifying them that the hold on the order should be released and that the money should be returned to my account, I showed this information to the clerk at Republic Bank who brushed it aside.
I was told by a friend to make a formal claim with Republic Bank which I did but even after doing so I am still without luck as I have been waiting weeks now for the money to be refunded.
Mr. Editor, in this modern day with computers and banking at a click of a mouse, why is it that Republic Bank is so slow to make the refund and why is it that you must lodge a claim with Republic Bank otherwise they will never refund your money?
I’m sure a lot of its customers don’t know that they must file a claim otherwise the money will be forfeited by Republic Bank.
This is simply unacceptable and the bank must recall this policy since it does not auger well for the credibility of the bank.
I intend to further this matter with the Governor of the Bank of Guyana and the Minister of Finance to get this unjust policy of Republic Bank recalled.
