A 70-year-old miner was yesterday remanded to jail after he appeared for the first time before
Magistrate Allan Wilson to answer the charge of murder.
The charge stated that on February 22 at Imbaimadai Landing located in Essequibo, Burcliffe ‘Baba’ Marcus murdered Clive Cornelius.
The accused was not required to plead to the capital offence.
The prosecutor revealed that on the day in question Marcus and Cornelius had a misunderstanding which developed into a fight. Marcus reportedly picked up a piece of wood and dealt Cornelius several lashes about his body and head. The matter was reported and investigations led to the arrest of the accused.
Cornelius later succumbed to his injuries after seeking medical attention at the Imbaimadai Hospital.
Marcus was remanded and his matter was transferred to the Kamarang Magistrate Court for March 19.
