‘Screw’ Richmond Schools Football starts today in Linden

This year’s Edward ‘Screw’ Richmond Schoolboys Football Competition for teams in Region 10 kicks off today with a double header, at two venues.
Over at the Mackenzie Sports Club ground, defending champions Harmony Secondary play guest to Mackenzie High School, while at the Linden Technical Institute ground, the host entertain Linden Foundation.
According to word from the Mining community, all the teams have been in serious preparations to produce another high level tournament and with the inclusion this year of Kwakwani Secondary School the buzz around town is to ensure that the title and winning trophy stay in the community.
The competition now caters for students up to the age of 20 years and this according to the Organising Committee is to provide the opportunity for better display of skills, especially in light of recent comments made by Golden Jaguars Technical Director Jamaal Shabazz, who made the decision to use a two-tier system which will be able to spot and expose new talent to boost Guyana’s chances of developing a larger cadre of players to represent the country.
Mayfield Taylor-Trim, a member of the LOC speaking with Kaieteur Sport via telephone yesterday said that the scheduled Opening Ceremony which was to be done previously, but was postponed due to the inclement weather that left the MSC ground in an unplayable state will now be conducted at a later date.
