Play in the Guyana Softball League Preparatory t10 softball cricket tournament
sponsored by Moonlite Trading, Regal Stationery & Computer Centre, Elegance Jewellery & Pawnshop and Mike Copy Centre continued last weekend and Zalata XI, an U-17 team, upstaged their more seasoned counterparts to clinch the East Coast Zone of the competition.

Zalata xi (an under 17 team) win Lower East Coast zone; Memorex xi win East Berbice.
Zalata XI a team that came up through the ranks in Guyana Softball League tournaments has finally realized their talents by winning the Lower East Coast zone and enter the countrywide quarterfinals defeating the more experienced Challengers XI by 5 wickets: Scores in the match are Challengers batting first scored 106 for 8 wkts off their 10 overs (Jeff Persaud 22; Arif Khan 2-10 off his two overs) In reply Zalata XI made 108-5 off 9 overs (Suresh Singh 27 not out; Mark Fung 3-18 from 2 overs).
In East Berbice Memorex XI scored a comprehensive victory over Karibee Boys XI by 8 wkts to enter the countrywide quarterfinal stage: Karibee Boys batted first and were limited to 98-3 in their ten overs with Roland Kistamar scoring 49 in reply Memorex marched to 99-2 in 9.3 overs with Michael Rangasammy opening the batting guiding his team with 61 not out).
Zalata XI and Memorex will now join South Star of Linden; Invaderz of West Demerara; D’Edward SC of West Berbice; Affiance Storm of Essequibo; Helena #1 &2 SC of Upper East Coast in the countrywide quarterfinals and the Georgetown winner which will be decided this weekend as five teams will be clashing.
In the female category Mahaica Queens (Upper East Coast), Rising Stars (West Demerara), Fazal Kayume Females (Lower East Coast) and All Star conquerors (Linden) will clash in the countrywide semifinals.
OVER 35 MALES 20/20: Success Masters XI defeated Better Hope XI by 5 wkts at Success Ground; Mahaica Sports Club defeated Young Guns XI by 13 runs at Helena Ground.
