The man was nabbed under a bed in an apartment in Rosemary Lane (Tiger Bay) just after midday. There are reports that he had just robbed the relative of a senior police officer.
According to one of the ranks, the man made a dash for freedom after seeing ranks of a mobile police patrol approaching him.
He managed to make it to one of the many apartments in the area, by using several children as a shield.
A police source said that when they entered the apartment, a woman who appeared to be the young suspect’s mother tried to prevent them from entering.
From all indications she had hidden the young man by covering him with several pieces of old clothing and bed sheets.
Police said that the suspect was one of the bandits who robbed a city car dealer twice in one night. They have also linked him to several other robberies.
