The Thomas United Football Club (TUFC) 52nd Anniversary Mash Challenge
Cup is set to resume on Tuesday February 28 at the Mackenzie Sports Club Ground in the Bauxite Mining Town of Linden with double header rivalry.
Four home based clubs will be on show with the respective winners moving on to play in the City on March 2nd.
Set to ignite the MSC on Tuesday evening are Milerock, who will lock horns with Winners Connection from 18:30hrs, with the main event featuring former knock-out kings Bakewell Topp XX and Amelia’s Ward United.
On Friday March 2, competition will switch to the Mecca of football in the city, GFC ground for what is anticipated to be two explosive encounters.
Pele will match skills with the winner of the Milerock/Winners Connection match-up, while host club Thomas United will square off with East Demerara’s Victoria Kings as the two clubs renew old rivalry.
Some former stars who have played for Thomas United in the past will be rekindling the flames when they don club uniforms for this game, the likes of former national Under-20 midfielder Ovis ‘Young Haji’ Fraser based in French Guiana, Keith Goppy (T&T) and Jermaine Browne (Suriname).
West Demerara’s Den Amstel will come up against the winner of the Amelia’s Ward/Topp XX clash on Wednesday March 7th, this encounter also set for the GFC Ground. South Georgetown favourites, BK International Western Tigers will appear on the March 7 card also, they will throw down the gauntlet to West Demerara’s Seawall FC.
Alpha ‘The Hammer’ United has been included in the tournament following their withdrawal from the Georgetown Football Association (GFA) and the acceptance of the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) to welcome them under the national umbrella.
The organisers have said that an opponent for ‘The Hammer’ will be known shortly while their addition will add spice to the competition.
Meanwhile, the latest corporate entity to lend support to the tournament is the Shell Gas Station, located at Mc Doom on the East Bank of Demerara. Owner and Distributor Mr. Ray Imoff handed over the cheque to Haji Fraser, representative of the tournament organisers and said that his company was very pleased to be associated with the tournament and they saw as a way of helping to fulfil their corporate role of enhancing the development of the game in Guyana.
Shell he said has a very proud track record on supporting sports and its development while wishing the organisers and teams every success.
