Continuing their aim to set a firm foundation with the focus on youth
investment and development, the Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) recently hosted a Fast Bowlers Clinic which attracted Thirty (30) promising young fast bowlers drawn from clubs across the Ancient County.
Organised by the Special Events Committee (SEC) of the Board, the clinic was held on Sunday last at the Area ‘H’ Ground, Rose Hall Town. This clinic was the second to be held this year and forms part of the Board’s efforts to develop new talent for the County. The aim of the Board was to attract 24-players but 30-players turned up and the Board was delighted to welcome all.
The clinic was conducted by Coaches Julian Moore, Winston Smith and Michael Hyles Franco, with the players exposed to information on the different aspects of fast bowling, including run up, follow through, grip of the ball, delivery stride and body movement.
They were also taught the importance of physical fitness and how a fast bowler must condition his body for the hard work ethic associated with becoming a successful and great fast bowler. Tips on how to bowl on pitches which are slow and more suitable to spin bowlers were also shared with the participants.
The facilitators expressed their surprise and delight at the talent displayed by the bowlers while urging them to work hard on their game with the advice and coaching they had received. Chairman of the Special Events Committee Hilbert Foster, who spearheaded the initiative, informed that the wicketkeeping and fast bowling clinics were successfully completed with the focus going forward to be on junior spinners, batsmen and captains.
At the conclusion of the clinics, the coaches and Junior Selection Committee of the BCB would select players for special coaching throughout 2012 under the Junior Elite Training Programme.
