– says we buy skinned animals
Police swooped down on an illegal butcher shop in Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara and arrested three persons on Mashramani Day.
The three were caught red-handed with stolen cows, sheep and goat. It is alleged that they had used a car (PFF2995) to transport the animals to the illegal slaughtering area.
David Sital, 41, of Lot 5 Lusignan, East Coast Demerara, said that he rears cows for a living and woke up Mashramani morning, only to discover that two of his cows were gone.
He said that his cows were tied to a tree in front of his yard. “I woke up around 3:30 in the morning because the dogs were barking. When I check, the cows were there so I went back to sleep and when I wake up back around 4:50 the cows were gone.”
The man said that he called his friend and they combed the area.
“My father tell me that it got a place called ‘DJango Town’ in Mon Repos, where people does thief cows and sell them.”
Upon arriving at the place, Sital said that he and his friend heard “chopping sounds” so they immediately ventured into the yard and went straight to the back where they instantly started snapping photographs after they noticed three persons leaning over a cow, “chopping it up.”
The 41-year-old said that he could not have identified whether the cows were his because they (cows) were already ‘skinned’.
“After I took the pictures I told them that I lost two cows and my friend lost one. The owner of the place said that he does buy skinless cow from Berbice.
I look around and I notice my cow heads and when I tell them they left the place and run away.”
The police was summoned and two women along with a male were arrested.
Sital said that he witnessed the cow’s guts thrown in a canter along with the foetus from one of the animals. (Romila Boodram)
