Miss Guyana World, Arti Cameron, is working the runways in New York City.
Cameron, who is billed to represent Guyana at the Miss World pageant later this year in China, made her modelling debut at the “PLITZS New York City Fashion Week”.
The event was staged February 10-11 at the Warwick Hotel in Midtown Manhattan where Miss Cameron was among 180 models who walked for 36 designers. Miss Cameron modeled the clothing lines of as many as five designers.
The reigning Miss Guyana World was well received by the capacity audiences that attended each night and which consisted of potential buyers, swarms of media personnel, and fashionistas who converged in New York City.
NYC has laid claim to the title of “fashion capital of the world” through a proclamation by the Mayor of NYC, Michael Bloomberg.
It is against this backdrop that New York City Fashion Week generates a great deal of attention from the fashion world, businesses, the media, and politicians as NYC holds on to its status as the epicenter of the fashion world.
Miss Cameron survived a grueling audition process before being selected to be part of the 180 elite model lineup that took to the run way.
But once in the lineup, the next step was for designers to make their selection– at will– about which models would showcase their clothing line, and as many as five designers chose Miss Cameron to present their clothing lines: Samina Mughal (Untamed Ferocious Glamour), Jesseca Thaxton (Melancholic), Kristina Benshoff (Provocation), Caroline Jane Smith (Janie G. Couture), Ola Hawatmeh (Ola Style).
Guyanese designer Michelle Cole of COLEFACTS, who is preparing to show in a PLITZS fashion show later this year, had introduced the reigning queen to the PLITZS casting crew. She said the crew “instantly fell in love with Miss Cameron.
Miss Cole said that the casting crew could not say no to the reigning queen’s poise, personality, and confidence- – all qualities they were looking for in a model.
