The long-awaited Guyana Motor Racing & Sports Club (GMR&SC) Fun-day
that was previously affected by the inclement weather will now be staged tomorrow, at the club’s Headquarters on Albert Street.
Motor racing fans will see action in the Endurance race which will form the feature event, while those that missed the season opener at the South Dakota Circuit a few weeks ago will have another opportunity to witness the ongoing rivalry among the emerging group of young competitors in the category.
Kaieteur Sport paid a visit to the facility recently and was told of some of the plans for the day’s activities.
This newspaper was told that that the main event will be the one-hour Endurance race featuring no more than nine machines owned by the club with an allotment of three drivers permitted to drive during the period and a total body weight of 450 lbs between them.
“The three designated drivers cannot have less than 450 lbs, but will be allowed to weigh in excess of that,” a source close to the fraternity said.
The source added that at the completion of the Endurance race, there will be a number of sprint races featuring the Shifter and Rotax go-karts, while a demonstration of skills and dexterity among the young competitors should also highlight the day’s proceedings.
Among the young guns expected to display their skills and abilities are Elliot Vieira, Matthew Vieira, Mikhail Seereram, Denzil Hopkinson, Raymond Seebarran, Alex Fiedtkou, Matthew and Jonathan Phang and Edward and Alex Powers for the boys, while the girls will be spearheaded by Britney Seereram, Emma Vieira, Stacy and Serena Ming and Alexandria Phang.
Starting time is 14:00 hrs. Additionally, anyone interested in competing in the day’s activities could make contact at the club on telephone# 231-5457 and ask for Rayon.
Food and drinks will be on sale.
