Cites return to GFF fold
President of Alpha United Football Club Odinga Lumumba in a letter written to Organisers of the NaMilCo Football Festival confirmed his team’s withdrawal from the annual tournament citing the club’s return to the fold of the Guyana Football Federation.
The full text of the letter that Kaieteur Sport received from President of Fruta Conquerors Football Club Marlan Cole is as follows:
Mr. Marlan Cole
President
Fruta Conquerors
Football Club
Dear Mr. Cole,
Alpha United Football Club has returned to the fold of the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) and as a result the club can only participate in football that is sanctioned by the Federation.
In order for Alpha United to continue in the Annual NaMilCo Football Tournament, the sponsors or Fruta Conquerors will have to seek permission from the GFF.
In the interim, Alpha United Football Club would like to thank you for your invitation to participate in the Annual NaMilCo Football Tournament and I hope that for the future of football we can mutually find a way to move Guyana football forward.
Thank you.
The letter stated that copies were also sent to GFF General Secretary Noel Adonis and Deputy General Secretary George Rutherford.
Meanwhile, Cole in his response wrote a letter informing football fans, players, sponsors and the Executive and General Council of the Georgetown Football Council of the latest development since Alpha United were to play Beacons in their semi-final matchup tomorrow, at the Tucville ground, but with their withdrawal, Riddim Squad, the team they defeated 1-0 in the quarter-finals on Wednesday evening will now play Beacons for a place in the final.
The following is the letter sent by Cole.
The Fruta Conquerors Football club wishes to regrettably inform the general public, that the Alpha United Football Club has withdrawn its support from our organized NaMilCo Football Festival 2012 based on the advice and directives of the GFF.
Under the circumstances, we are forced to re-enter team Riddim Squad, the most recent team that Alpha United F.C. played against. Riddim Squad will now face Beacon Football Club at 19:00 hrs in the first semifinal match on Sunday, February 26, at the Tucville Ground.
The Fruta Conquerors Football Club wishes to assure our sponsors, fans, players,GFA General Council Members and the GFA Executives that every effort will be made to ensure the completion of this year’s tournament to the satisfaction of all and sundry.
In addition, in the face of many challenges, developmental works on the Tucville Ground will continue uninhibited and better playing conditions and facilities will be available for next year’s tournament with this year’s success.
We are, therefore, appealing for continued support and solidarity from the general public, the football fraternity, well wishers, supporters and sponsors.
Every effort will be made to ensure and guarantee the completion of a very successful tournament to date and we at Fruta Conquerors Football Club are grateful for the invaluable support given to the tournament by the GFA thus far.
