The Central Police Station Operational Youth Club in New Amsterdam in collaboration with the Station Management Committee on Wednesday successfully staged a one day female 10/10 cricket competition for ranks of the Division. The one day competition was played at the Central Police Station Recreation Centre playfield. In the finals Team two defeated their counterparts of Team one by five runs.
Team two batted first and made a formidable 106 -9 in their allotment of over with Juanita Trellis top scoring with 30(1‘x6, 5×4), Rochelle Julian 25(2×6, 2×4), Sonia Anderson 17 and Carmella James 16.
In their turn at the crease Team one made a spirited reply ending on 101-5 when their overs expired with Marlyn Roberts clubbing 65( 6×6,5×4), while Marcella Briggs was undefeated on 31(4×6,1×4) .
At the end of the games both teams were presented with Cash Incentives and trophies by members of the station management committee while the outstanding players were also rewarded.
The game was sponsored by Home Design & Engineering Associates along with Abu Mangal of the Berbice Anjuman Orphanage; Overseas based Guyanese Ronald Khan and Geddes Grant Guyana Limited among others. The teams were made up police ranks, Neighborhood police and Special constables. The one day competition is part of a series of activities planned for ranks in the division.
The Central Police Operational outreach programme and Youth Club since its formation in 2010 has been having a successful time and is looking forward for better things in 2012.
The activity was graced with the presence of Commander of Police B division, Assistant Commissioner Dereck Josiah, second in charge, Senior Superintendent Eric Bassant and officer in charge of the police No One sub division, Assistant Superintendent Guy Nurse.
The activity was coordinated by Inspector Jairam Ramlakhan, coordinator of the Police Operational Youth Club and outreach programme and station sergeant of the Central Police Station Sergeant Michael Newland.
The idea is all part of the forces enhancement and community outreach project where the force is continuously being geared to take on a new image and all in the quest of doing things differently.
