Glittering, dazzling floats and dancing revelers decked out in a galore of colours
created quite a stunning attraction this year at the annual Children’s Costume Parade.
The thousands of spectators who lined the streets of Georgetown and turned up at the National Park, on Saturday, were treated to impressive performances by excited students who enjoyed gyrating to the loud music in their breathtakingly, beautiful costumes.
The Ministry of Education released the results yesterday, which pointed out the best costumes and floats in the parade.
In the Nursery School Band, Happy Hearts School emerged as the first place winner with “Tribal Connection”.
The Precious Jewels Nursery copped second spot with “Regal Rollickers” followed by Head Start Nursery, third, with “Celebrating our Cultural Pride through Music.”
Fourth place was awarded to Carol’s Nursery School that promoted the theme “Royalty”.
“Features of Bam Bam Sally” led the North Georgetown Primary to first place in the Primary School Bands competition. Following closely was Ketley Primary in second place, with “Together in Guyana to keep our traditions alive.”
Coming in third was the Winfer Gardens Primary with “A Royal Infusion”. St. Stephen’s Primary was fourth, with “Vat on De Attack.”
As expected, with their “golden performance”, the Diamond Secondary School stole the first position in the Secondary School Bands with “Golden Queen of Eldorado.”
Ascension Secondary came in second with “This Train is Bound for Glory” and St. John’s College placed third with “Beauty of Eldorado.”
Fourth place was awarded to the Kingston Secondary with their “Reviving our Culture through Music.”
Other children’s organisations were also participants in this competition and were awarded according to their performances. The “Working and Celebrating as We Celebrate We Motto” presentations and float by the Hinterland Scholarship Division copped the top spot.
In second place was the National School of Dance’s “The Masqueraders”, followed by third place winner, Western Youth Organisation’s “Education-water flowing in the Mind with an Angelic touch”
The HIV Prevention Project of the Ministry of Education with “Getting to Zero, Zero AIDS-related death, Zero Discrimination, Zero New HIV Infection” secured the fourth position in this category.
Meanwhile, under the Regional Presentation, Region Three’s “Keys to Success- Raising our Education Standard” placed first. Region Ten gained second with “Revelers in fusion”.
Region Four’s ‘Maintaining our Traditions with Pride and Unity in 2012” came in third followed by “Give Birth” from Region Eight.
Commendation must also be paid to the participants in the category of Individual Presentation where creativity and colour were far from lacking.
Jamal Broomes continued to impress the crowd with his “A Legend of Flare” that copped first place while the “Golden Flower Princess” by a Chateau Margot Primary School student came in second.
“Miss Allied Arts” from the Kawall Primary School placed third in this competition. Fourth place was awarded to the Lusignan Primary School for its “Queen of Fairies”. (Kristen Macklingam)
