Pupils attending the Huis’t Dieren Primary School were encouraged by First Lady, Deolachmee Ramotar, to aim high and to attend school regularly.
Mrs.Ramotar was speaking at a party hosted for children living within the Huis’t Dieren Community on the Essequibo Coast, on Sunday.
The First Lady addressed more than 300 children at a party hosted in their honour. She told them that they can aspire to be whatever they would want to be in the future, provided they set their priorities right.
“Most of Guyana’s leaders come from humble beginnings. The point is you don’t have to be born into a rich home to be someone respectful and professional, you just have to study.”
Mrs. Ramotar said that the party was organised specifically as a post Christmas-pre-Mashramani event with the primary aim of encouraging adults to socialise with the children.
The First Lady also advised the children to assume the banner of determination in order to make Guyana a prouder nation.
A ceremonial programme was organised by the Huis’t Dieren Primary School, in honour of Mrs. Ramotar. Some of the children recited poems, sang songs and even took the opportunity to dance with Mrs. Ramotar. She also sang some of her favorite songs and reflected on some popular nursery rhymes.
The First Lady was entertained by steel pan music, conducted by students of NOC.
Executive Director of Food for the Poor, Leon Davis, was among the guests at the children’s party. Davis said that his organisation was overwhelmed to be partnering with the First Lady.
