Four (4) Georgetown Rotary Clubs are set to jointly host a Job/Career Fair early next month, with 12 companies and organizations already signing up for the event.
According to a statement released yesterday, the one-day affair will be held on March 3rd at Marian Academy on Carifesta Avenue, and will target mainly youths and young adults.
The four clubs are the Rotary Club of Georgetown, Demerara, Central and Stabroek.
“This is the first ever jobs fair to be hosted jointly by the four Rotary Clubs of Georgetown.
One of Rotary’s areas of focus is vocation. Rotary stresses the value of having a vocation, particularly as that vocation could provide an opportunity to serve one’s community. Rotary recognizes there is an ongoing challenge in finding suitable employment and has decided to make this event an annual one,” the statement indicated.
It was explained that the aim of the fair is to provide a venue for the young, prospective employees to interact with a pool of possible employers. It will also highlight the various careers in companies and industries.
“Rotary has invited the participation of a number of firms from a cross-section of activities, focusing on engineering, construction, hospitality, banking and insurance.”
On board already are Sterling Products Ltd; Institute of Private Enterprise and Development (IPED)/Guyana Youth Business Trust (GYBT); GenEquip; Scotiabank; GTM; the Insurance Institute of Guyana; John Fernandes Limited; Global Technology; Camex Restaurants; Princess Hotel; Ansa McAl and Iwokrama.
“Participating firms are being asked for a contribution to offset costs. Ansa McAl already has come on board as one of our sponsors.”
The fair will also provide an opportunity for prospective employees to gain tips on career planning, interview techniques and professional etiquette by way of mini-seminars conducted by qualified Rotarians.
“We are also encouraging entrepreneurship by partnering with IPED/GYBT.”
The Rotary Clubs said that interested companies and persons can make contact with Debra Skeete on 613-0471, Donna Pierre on telephone number on 609-0977 or they can email [email protected].
