Upper Demerara’s Amelia’s Ward United eased their way into the main draw of the Guyana Football
Federation National Super League sponsored by FIFA under the Win in CONCACAF with CONCACAF Initiative.
Amelia’s Ward blanked Bakewell Buxton Stars 3-0 in their group A encounter with the win propelling them to the top spot in the group and their place in the main draw.
Scoring for the victors were Oscar Adams in the 36th minute, Darwin Luke in the 53rd and Paul Trotman six minutes to lemon time. Amelia’s Ward scored a total of 5 goals overall while conceding 1.
Over at the Uitvlugt Community Centre Ground on the West Coast of Demerara, home team Den Amstel edged Berbice’ New Amsterdam United 3-2 in feature play while in the curtain raiser, East Bank’s Grove Hi Tec were in rampaging mood thrashing Bartica’s Mill Ballers 6-1.
Den Amstel’s Andre Hector was the star of the game netting all the goals for his village in the 16th, 67th and 77th minute. Delroy Ferdinand (41) and Adrian Adams were the players in target for New Amsterdam.
Grove Hi Tec enhanced their chances for a place in the main draw by hammering the hapless Mill Ballers compliments of a hat-trick from Dominic Garnett (31, 41, 88), a brace by Orson Francois (48, 85) with the other coming off the boot of John Matthews who opened the scoring in the 7th minute.
This Sunday will be a defining one when the action continues with two more matches. Up at the Blairmont Community Centre Ground, New Amsterdam United will lock horns with Mill Ballers commencing at 15:00hrs, while at the BV Ground, Den Amstel and Grove Hi Tech will collide from the same time.
Thoughts to ponder: If Den Amstel defeat Grove Hi Tech they will qualify by virtue of winning all their games, however if they lose to Grove, the latter will also attain 2 wins with a better goal difference.
If Grove win by a 1 goal margin they will have a goal difference of +4, However New Amsterdam can also win the group if they defeat Mill Ballers by a wide margin to boost their goal difference and hope that Grove Hi Tech beat Den Amstel.
Hence if Grove wins by a 1 goal difference, NA United will have to win by 4 clear goals. If Grove increases the lead, New Amsterdam will also have to do the same.
Presently, Den Amstel has a goal difference of +2, scoring 5 goals and conceding 3 with 2 wins.
Grove Hi Tech has a difference of +3 scoring 7 goals and conceding 4 with 1 win. New Amsterdam has a difference of +1 scoring 5 goals and conceding 4 with 1 win.
