Edmonds calls RBAC performance ‘average’

(RBAC) on his club’s performance at the Athletics Association of Guyana (AAG) first developmental meet which was held Sunday at the Police Sports Club ground, Eve Leary, Kingston, Edmonds stated that the club’s performance was average and below the standard that was laid out for the athletes with the exception of Andrea Foster’s performance in the 1500m.
Foster, a former dancer and daughter of Guyana’s sprint queen, Alicia Fortune, clocked 5:07.1 seconds in the girls under 18 1500m; looking at the CARIFTA Games U-17 females qualifying standard times, Foster has already reached the qualifying A Standard.
Edmonds stating that his club is in pre-competition phase, said that he was surprised with thirteen years old, Jevina Sampson 12.3 seconds timings in the 100m under 18 at the meet. “Sampson 100m was surprising; with the little speed we are currently doing she bettered her National Schools Track and Field time of 12.4 seconds.”
Discussing Sampson’s 58.1 seconds in the 400m, her coach stated that the performance was acceptable but was expecting 57 seconds, “57 seconds was the time we expected her to achieve but 58 seconds is good and acceptable, looking at the Caribbean its average; probably with more competition it would have been achievable”, her disclosed.
Questioning the Coach about Stephan James, who has already qualified for World Junior Games in Spain, he unveiled that he was looking forward for James starting the season in 47 seconds.
With Jevina Straker, who lately joined RBAC, it was disclosed that Straker’s problem is speed and he would be working on her to tune in with the speed work, “Looking at Straker’s performance last year at CARIFTA we identified that her problem is speed, so we entered her in the 400m to get her mind frame set for more speed in the 1500m”.

RBAC coach further stated that he will be entering at least 15 athletes for the upcoming CARIFTA Trails on March 4 at the Police Sports Club ground.
Names mentioned during the comment for the trials are Sampson, James, Foster, Straker, Shaquan Daniels, Shomaine Daniels, Jason Yaw, Natrena Hooper and Natricia Hooper.
