– promoting the Indian Culture globally
Growing up in an International Industry with performances of Bollywood film songs, Trinidadian-born
Wendy Khan has a vast knowledge of the Indian culture as it relates to dancing and music.
Khan, a well known media and television personality who grew up in the USA, is seeking to bring her skills to Guyana to promote the Indian culture.
After performing in many different countries, Khan is now placing special focus on Guyana, since she spent most of her formative years among American-based Guyanese.
Her current television show in the USA, “The JKS TV Show: The Show with a Difference” offers persons from various backgrounds the opportunity to learn about the Indian culture.
This year, Khan and her producer/ editor Guyanese-born Buddy Singh launched the “Wendy and Dheeraj Khan Show” on Cable 14/ Channel 65 in Guyana.
The local audience is now able to enjoy another live programme which is aimed at highlighting talented cultural dancers and singers.
In an interview with Kaieteur News, Khan explained that she was first invited to host a television show in the mid 90’s.
She interviewed stars such as Abishek Bachan, Shah Rukh Khan, Anil Kapoor, Madhuri Dixit and English stars also.
In 2007, Khan teamed up with the producer/ editor of the JKS TV Show, Buddy Singh, and they continuously worked at making this television show “the best”.
She said that this show has won numerous awards over the past four years.
“We’ve won numerous awards over the years. I have won for best television personality and my producer for best editing for the programme. The great thing about our show is that we try to make a difference in the community and persons can keep in tune with their culture, with Bollywood, where there is a showcase of songs because it is mostly an entertainment programme showcasing rich talent from people around the world.”
Because of widespread interest, the JKS TV Show is now available 24/7 online and in Guyana, the “Wendy and Dheeraj Khan Show” has received great feedback since its premiere.
“It is a mixed cultural programme here in Guyana where there is a little bit of American music also but mostly cultural. We are planning to expand the JKS show and bring it to Guyana. People and their families and friends will be able to share something with each other, showcasing talents even from Guyana also and bring the same concept as the JKS show,” stated Khan.
The local show will be open to anyone so as to get more persons involved in the culture and continue to keep it rich. According to the television host, her team is looking forward to the support from the business community (sponsors) in order to expand the cultural programme.
“We want to give new talented artistes the chance to be on the show, the young budding singers and also hope that the businesses support us so that the show can expand. Once this happens we will be able to do more for the community and the country as well. It will be a combination of both dancing and music,” she added.
This publication was told that participants will be able to win prizes on the local television show and that Khan and Singh will continue to do charitable work in Guyana and other countries as well.
The JKS Show is aired on Time Warner Cable every Saturday at 7pm on Channel 96 and in Guyana viewers can tune in to Cable 14/ Channel 65 on Sundays at 2pm for the “Wendy and Dheeraj Khan Show.”
