AAG Developmental Meet 1
Jevina Sampson of Running Brave Athletic Club (RBAC), created an astonishing timing in the girls under-20 400m yesterday at the Police Sports Club ground, Eve Leary when excellent weather permitted the Athletics Association of Guyana (AAG) first developmental meet for the 2012 season.
Sampson, one of Guyana’s stars in the making ran a superb 58.1 seconds in the 400m to register the best 400m timings for the day in the female category overall. This race appeared to be an easy race for her since she was relaxed from the start of the race until approaching the final 150 meters of the race; this was where she separated her opponents to take the lead.
In the boys version, Bevon Nobel of Upper Demerara Track Club, imitated Sampson’s style to finish first in 51.8 seconds ahead of RBAC’s Selwyn Foster time of 52.8 seconds; Neil Barry was third in 53.3 seconds.
In the men’s category, Stephan James, took the crown in the absence of Winston George to sprint a cool 48.8 seconds leaving Police Progressive Youth Club athlete, Shawn Semple (second) and Rualites’ Athletic Club Alton Seaforth (third) to battle the race to the end in 51.2 and 51.5 seconds respectively.
The girls U-18 400m saw RBAC clean sweeping, with Shomaine Daniels in first clocking 1:01.6 seconds, Natricia Hooper second in 1:02.6 seconds and Andrea Foster in third in a time of 1:03.7 seconds.
In the 100m sprint dash, one of the most popular events, Letitia Myles (open) of Guyana Defence Force (GDF) sprinted to the fastest time of 12.2 seconds with Sampson clocking the second fastest in 12.3 seconds in the under-18 category.
Patrick King took the top spot in 100m men’s open in the absence of his teammates Rupert Perry and Quinse Clarke in 11 seconds with UDTC’s Winston Ceaser, who is known for the field events in 11.02 seconds.
Sensational Chavez Ageday clocked the best time for the first developmental meet in the boys U-20 100m in 10.8 ahead of quarter miler, James (11.00 seconds) and UDTC’s Marlon Moshette (11.4 seconds).
Tevin Garraway, claimed the boys under-18 100m in 11.1 seconds, Samuel Doris crossed the line in second in 11.2 seconds.
Doris and Garraway, who were in the battlefield in the sprint events, shared top honours when the starter’s gun was sounded in the 200m. Doris took the 200m from Garraway a few meters before race destination in 22.8 seconds, the latter finished in 23.1.
Neisa Allen stamped her authority in the women 200m at ease in 25.6 seconds ahead of GDF’s Myles who was second in 26.2 seconds and Natrena Hooper, 26.4.
Tiffany Carto took a simple win in the under-20 girls in 26.9 seconds, the Daniels’ twin copped the youth class in 26.2 seconds (Shaquan) and 26.8 seconds (Shomaine); Natricia Hooper was third in 27.5 seconds.
Akeem Stewart’s 22.1 seconds won the men’s 200m, King and Caesar, who clashed before, came second and third in 22.2 and 22.6 seconds.
Adegay returned to take his final top spot in the 200 under-20 in 22.00 seconds (best time for first developmental meet). Davin Fraser and Noble shared the other two top positions in 22.4 and 22.6 seconds.
Coming down to the 1500m races, Guyana’s little Kenya, Cleveland Forde, outsprinted his opponents in the open group clocking 4:10.6 seconds; Nathaniel Giddings better known as Brother outclassed the boys in the junior section in 4:17.6 seconds, Trevon George of Mercury Fast Laners was second in 4:27.6.
The female edition among the youths saw Foster (5:07.1) in first followed by Abbemi Roberts (5:21.9); Ashanti Scott (5:26.8) of GDF took the women open with Alexis Williams (5:45.7) in second.
George (2:01.9) took his first win for the day in the 800m junior race ahead of Devon ‘Scooby’ Barrington, 2:03.7 seconds.
CARIFTA gold medalist, Jevina Straker, captured the 800m under-20 girls in 2:24.9 seconds, Roberts was first in the youth girls in 2:28.6 seconds with Williams winning the open in 2:43.8 seconds.
In the male’s open 4x100m relay, GDF A team took first in 43.7 seconds with King running the final leg, PPYC A team was second in 44 seconds with GDF’s B team third in 44.2 seconds.
Female 4x100m open relay, which featured four teams, concluded with RBAC finishing first in 50.2 seconds, PPYC A team came second in 51.1 with a mixed team of various athletes third in 53.1 seconds.
